Class 11110 (Locobase 2361)

See also Robert Tufnell, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Railway Locomotives (London: Quarto Publishing Ltd, 1986).

Four-cylinder Hudson tank by George Hughes for the newly minted grouping London, Midland, & Scottish. Based on the Dreadnought-class Ten-wheelers, the tanks shared the Belpaire boiler design. "They were free and fast engines," says Robert Tufnell, "but their weight limitation restricted their utility to operation between Manchester and Blackpool, and, although 20 had been ordered, only 10 were in fact built."
