Burly switcher used in several large yards; initially in Dairycoates, Gateshead, Hull Newport, Selby, Stockton, and Tyne Dock. Wilson Worsdell design cast the three cylinders and valve chests as a single unit. They were successful engines and the LNER added 5 more in 1925.The first was retired in 1955 with the last leaving service in 1961.
