2-6-4 Steam Locomotives in India

Madras & Southern Mahratta

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 110 (Locobase 21190)

Data from "Tank Locomotives for India, Eastern Bengal State and Madras & Southern Mahratta Rys," The Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXXII [32], No 404 (15 April 1926), p. 124. Works numbers were 4317-4323 in 1925.

At the same time Kerr Stuart was building six of this tank engine design for the Eastern Bengal (Locobase 21189), it was filling the order for this septet.

These also had the Belpaire firebox, and 8" (203 mm) piston valves Engine weight came in about 3 1/2 long tons less thanks to the smaller water and fuel capacity. An extended smokebox distinguished the two batches visually.
