Madras & Southern Mahratta 4-4-0 Locomotives in India

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 204 (Locobase 16042)

Data from "4-4-0 Tank Locomotives, Madras & Southern Mahratta Railway", Locomotive Magazine, Vol XVI (15 June 1910), p. 128.

Bagnall turned out this pair of Eight-wheeler tanks following the specifications of Messrs/ Rendel & Robertson, the railway's consulting engineers. The LM report says that they were expressly built for fast branch-line services in which speeds could reach 35 mph (56.4 km/h). As befitted a British-built locomotive for the colonies, the firebox was copper and the tubes were brass.
