East Indian 4-6-2 Locomotives in India

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 20973)

Data from "4-6-2 Type Express Locomotive, East Indian", Locomotive Magazine, Volume 31 (15 January 1925). Works numbers were 5366-5367

London-based consulting engineers Rendel, Palmer & Britton designed the Pacifics delivered to the Bombay, Baroda & Central India and described in Locobase 20478. Not long afterward, Kitson supplied this pair to the East Indian.

n addition to the large grate, the firebox heating surface area included 24 sq ft (2.23 sq m) of arch tubes. Steam was admitted to the cylinders through relatively large 11" (279 mm) piston valves. Like the BB&CI engines, the radial trailing truck had Cartazzi axleboxes linked through compensating beams with the trailing coupled axle's springs..
