Saurashta 4-6-2 Locomotives in India

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 20336)

Data from Data from "Locomotives for India," Engineer, Volume 188, No 24 (9 December 1949), p. 673.

This quartet of modestly scaled Pacifics was originally intended for the Morbi Railway, which was incorporated by the Saurashta. Its Belpaire firebox's heating surface included that supplied by three arch tubes. Engineer's report also mentioned the leading bogie which was of "normal Indian design" with volute side springs so configured as to place constantly the spring loading on the axle bearings. The truck's side play allowance was 5 1/2" (140 mm).
