Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 8 (Locobase 10175)

Data from "The Waterford & Central Ireland Railway," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol VI (February 1901), p. 40. Boiler pressure is an estimate. Works numbers were 591-592.

The first section of the Waterford & Kilkenny -- Kilkenny to Thomastown -- was opened on 11 May 1848. When completed as far as it would g, the W & CI measured about 67 miles (Waterford to Mountmellick in Queen's County) and had 11 locomotives. All 11 engines had 4 wheels coupled (6 wheels total) in a variety of layouts : four 0-4-2, six 2-4-0, and one 0-4-2T. The W & CI was folded into the Great Southern & Western on 1 September 1900.

This pair was delivered without domes, but would later acquire polished brass domes.
