Data from R M Livesey, "Rolling-Stock on the Principal Irish Narrow-Gauge Railways", Engineering, Volume 94, (2 August 1912), pp. 169-176, table on p. Works numbers were 2801-2802 in 1909.
The heavyweight Pacific tanks on the L&LS, whose narrow gauge led to outside frames. Their boilers were heated with Belpaire fireboxes.
These two were scrapped during World War II, 13 in 1940, 14 in 1943.
Lighter Pacific tanks than the six that came to the L&LS from Hudswell, Clarke. The two engines -- the other's name was Richmond -- had markedly different fates. Aberfoyle was scrapped in 1928, while Richmond lasted until all steam was scrapped in 1954.
Data from "Londonderry and Lough Swilly Ry and Its Connections," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol IX (4 July 1902), p. 8.
The L&LS eventually included 99.5 miles from Londonderry through Lough Swilly (8 1/2 miles distant), Letterkenny, and Burtonport.
These sturdy engines had been intended for the northern branch to Cardonagh, but ran on all of the L&LS until they were scrapped. 7 and 8 adopted the Allan straight-link valve motion in preference to the Stephenson gear used on 5 and 6.
King Edward VII rode behind #7, hence its adoption of that name. This engine was scrapped in 1940; the others lasted until 1953-1954.
