Class 141 (Locobase 6244)

Data from users.libero.it/allesandro.tuzza/fonti/sfr/1879sfrindice.htm (8 July 2004), an 1878 album of locomotives for the SFR reproduced by Allesandro Tuzza. Ansaldo (in Sampierdarena) delivered these two as almost the very first locomotives they built (works #23-24). (later cite: [link], Tavola 14.)

Their layout (with the two driving axles leading) had only just been adopted in England. The relatively short boiler gave the design a sturdy, bulldog look, especially with the large roof over the footplate and the increase in height forward from sandbox to steam dome to stack.

Locobase found an inconsistencies between the given values for the tube diameters, tube lengths, and for the evaporative heating surface area given as 81.1 sq m. The EHS value shown in Locobase's specs is composed of the firebox heating surface area given in the diagram and the tube heating surface area calculated from the stated tube length, external tube diameter, and count.
