FNM 0-8-0 Locomotives in Italy

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 240 (Locobase 6175)

Data from digilander.libero.it/sam700/storia200.htm.

This particular entry doesn't have boiler pressure so Locobase's figure is estimated based on several contemporaneous Italian locomotives. The 240s were designed to deliver 900 hp and their superheating undoubtedly aided in offsetting the small size of the boiler. They rated at 60 km/h (38 mph) forward, 40 km/h reverse.

The site says the first 4 were from St Leonard, the next 5 from La Meuse in 1908. When the FNM - the Ferrovie Nord Milano -- took over the Monza-Molteno-Oggiono Railroad in 1912, 2 more of identical design but built by Henschel & Sohn came with the railroad.

In the 1950s, all were sold for scrap.
