Strade Ferrate della Sicilia / FS 0-8-0 Locomotives in Italy

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Gruppo F / Gruppo 410 (Locobase 6215)

Data from the Rete Sicula website [link] ... (visited 5 July 2004).

One clear advantage of going to an eight-coupled layout was the significant increase in boiler size. A prototype had a slightly larger grate (2.15 sq m) and less evaporative heating surface (151.3 sq m), but the 24 production locomotives -- procured in two sottogruppi -- had the dimensions shown. The factors show that there was still some room for growth in this design.

At the time of the Ferrovie dello Stato takeover in 1905, 4 units were under repair and the others were divided among Catania (9), Caltanissetta (7), and Messina (5).
