Stato Piemontese 2-2-2 Locomotives in Italy

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 229/106/519 (Locobase 20586)

Data from Ferrovie Dell' Alta Italia, Album Delle Locomotive (Torino, 1o Luglio 1876), T9.(For roster details, see Josef Pospichal's Lokstatistik at [link], last accessed 15 August 2019.)

Although this quintet arrived on the KofS railway eleven years after the Sharpies shown in Locobase 10730, these show very little change in any of their key dimensions, weights, and areas. The big difference seems to have been the use of a six-wheel tender.

The Album data contain an inconsistency that Locobase can't resolve with available information. The stated evaporative heating surface area--87.9 sq m--is approximately 17% too low when compared to the sum of firebox heating surface area and the calculated tube heating surface area. Locobase's specifications adjust the EHS to reflect the higher value.
