Adriatico / FS 2-8-0 Locomotives in Italy

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 9189)

Maurice Demoulin, Locomotive Actuelle ... (Paris: Librairie Polytechnique Ch.Beranger, 1906), p. 274.

Locobase suspects that this 4-cylinder compound was soon converted to simple expansion, because he finds no mention of such a Consolidation in later years. Demoulin did say that the locomotives were headed for the steep grades of the Appenines.

The compounding system held the HP cylinders inside, the LP outside and all driving on the same axle (second) and each set using the same valve. A Krauss truck united the leading truck and the first coupled axle and had a substantial amount of play.
