CF de la Cote d'Ivoire Beyer-Garratt Locomotives in Ivory_Coast

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 3539)

Data from Lionel Wiener, "Les Locomotives Articulees Actuelles," Revue General des Chemins de Fer, Volume 49 (July 1929), pp. 14-16..

The only example of the Golwe' articulated locomotive mentioned in Lionel Wiener's book (1930), this rare bird is a compact version of the Garratt design. In the Golwe', the front engine unit pivoted under the boiler, much like the Mallet, but the rear supported the tank like a Garrratt. Although it was shorter than the Garratt, and thus perhaps better able to take sharper curve alignments, its boiler size was necessarily contrained by the need to keep the engine within the typically small loading gauges.
