Iga 2-6-2 Locomotives in Japan

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 4 (Locobase 14611)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 60, pp. 99+. See also "Iga Railway Iga Line" in Wikipedia at [link], last accessed 4 June 2022. Works number was 55033 in September 1921.

This small Prairie tank served the 26 km (16.1 mile) line that ran south from Iga-Ueno on the Kansai line to Nishi-Nabari. It opened on 22 July 1922. Iga is located in Mie Prefecture on the southeastern coast of Honshu about 95 km southwest of Nagoya and northwest of Osaka Bay.

The Iga line's electrification in 1926 probably rendered the 4 surplus to requirements, but Locobase has no information on its later career.
