Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 14612)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 60, p. 102+. Works numbers were 53696-53697, 53700 in September 1920.

As with the other Prairie tanks supplied to small Japanese railways at this time, the Joso tanks were ticketed for 60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre) rail, maximum grades of 2 1/2%, curve radii of 660 feet (201 metres) or 8.7%. The Joso opened in 1913 and began at Toride, 27.2 miles (43.8 km) from Tokyo. It headed toward Shimodate 31.9 miles (51.4 km) away.
