Kominato 2-6-2 Locomotives in Japan

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 15288)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 72, p. 269+. Works numbers were 57776-57777 in April 1924.

This railway cut across Bo-so- Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture from the west coast to the town of Otaki over a distance of 39.1 km (24.3 mi). Its eastern terminus was to have been the town of Kominato itself, but that plan was abandoned when the line ended at Kazusa-Nakano with a connection to the JGR's Kihara Line.

It ran under steam until the first diesel cars were introduced in 1961; the last steam engine was retired in 21 March 1962.
