Ome 2-6-2 Locomotives in Japan

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 14606)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 60, p. 86+. Works numbers were 46767, 46820 in October 1917.

This short private railway opened in 1894 in the Tokyo area and operated 18.5 km (11.5 miles) between Tachikawa and Ome with a later extension to Mitake for a total length of 27.2 km (16.9 miles). These double-ended Prairie tanks, purchased by broker Frazar & Company in the same order as the last two Fuji Minobu engines shown in Locobase 14605, were well-suited for frequent-stop, bi-directional operation.
