Data from Catalogue 10036--Locomotives for Export (New York City, April 1910), pp. 47-48. Works numbers were 44215-44240 in January 1908, 44241-44249 in February
Not long before Richmond produced the 26 Ten-wheelers shown in Locobase 20193, they turned out an even greater number of Prairie freighters. Most American mainline railroads had regarded 2-6-2s as passenger engines. But they were somewhat prone to unsteadiness at speed. But many operators liked its compact bi-directionality and in North America as well as in many other settings, the Prairie proved quite popular.
The SM locomotives trailed small, slope-backed tenders.
