Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Sorii/Sori (Locobase 21183)

Data from "Sentetsu Sorii-class locomotives" in Wikipedia at [], last accessed 27 May 2024.

Wikipedia (among other sources) insist that Baldwin manufactured this sextet of Consolidations in 1894 and that they were bought by the Japanese Army to run on its Temporarry Military Railway in 1904.

Unfortunately, Locobase's ransacking of the Baldwin specification books for that year turns up no likely prior owner. No source supplies builder's numbers and Locobase has no entry that combines the power dimensions (cylinder volume, boiler pressure, and driver diameter) with the grate area shown in Wikipedia's specs. Locobase 12689 describes the six Consolidations supplied to the Seoul-Fusan Railway with the same power dimensions, but not nearly the same grate area.
