Chosen Government 4-6-0 Locomotives in Korea

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Tehoi (Locobase 14221)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 49, p. 200. Works numbers were 38699-38710 in November 1912.

The 45 sq ft (4.18 sq m) in the combustion chamber contributed more than 20% to the direct heating surface.

Class Tehoro (Locobase 20723)

Data from Wikipedia's "Sentetsu Tehoro-class locomotive", last accessed at [] on 1 March 2020. Gyeongseong Works produced 2 prototypes and 13 production machines. Hitachi's Kasato works manufactured the most of the three Japanese builders with Kawasaki and Mitsubishi adding 13 others.

The Tehoro class represented the first domestically produced . It improved on Baldwin's 1913 Tehoi class (Locobase 14221) prinicipally in offering more heating surface and grate areas, adding a superheater, an automated fire dore and other improvements.

Wikipedia sets its place in Korean railway history as follows: "The Tehoro class was a notable milestone in the history of Korea's railways. As the first type designed and produced entirely by domestic (Korean and Japanese) factories, it gave Japanese and Korean designers extensive experience which was subsequently applied to the development of the Pashishi and Mikasa-class."

Class Tehosa (Locobase 21139)

Data from "Sentetsu Tehosa-class locomotiv" in Wikipedia at [], last accessed 13 July 2023.

Baldwin's 1907 Teho-class Ten-wheel passenger engines (Locobase 13143) arrived as saturated-boiler. Eight years later, this nonet from Dunkirk, New York provided another option to the Chosen railway

Wikipedia's entry for this class includes some confusing heating surface data.
