Mauritius Government 0-6-0 Locomotives in Mauritius

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Canopus (Locobase 20938)

Data from "Mauritius Government Railways", Locomotives Manufactured by Messrs Kitson & Co Ltd, Leeds. See also "Kitsons & the Airedale Foundry" on the invaluable Steamindex website at [link], last accessed on 11 September 2021. Works numbers were 2197-2198 in 1878.

Small goods tank engine with Belpaire firebox. The second locomotive was also named for a star: Capella.

Locobase's description of the valve gear as Walschaert is based on the catalogue photo, but suggests that it may in fact be an example of Kitson's patented variation normally fitted to its tram locomotives.
