0-4-2 Steam Locomotives in Mexico

Hacienda Pardo

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 12622)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 25, p. 33. Works number was 20968 in October 1902.

This little wood-burner was ordered by Don Manuel Hernandez Acevedo who represented the Hacienda Pardo and also invested in the Ferrocarril de Santa María del Río in the Estado de San Luis Potosi. The railway connected several haciendas with the village of Ojo Caliente.

See Locobase 12378 to see Mexico's Yucatan railway 0-4-2T, which arrived later in the year and shows identical specifications. (Unlike the Yucatan engine, whose spec required wood or coal grate components, the 1's specs mention only wood fuel.)
