Data from NdeM 1950 Locomotive Diagrams Standard Gauge supplied in December 2010 by Allen Stanley.
A rare wheel arrangement topped by a saddle tank that extended from the cab front to the smokebox front. The diagram showed an squat engine with its oil bunker-supported trailing truck set well back behind the firebox from the rear driven axle located ahead of the firebox. All four truck wheels measured 24" (610 mm) in diameter.
The railway rated the L-1's nominal horsepower at 596 hp.
