Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 25, p.297. Works number was 22479 in July 1903.
Camelback designs often were used to provide the enormous grate used to burn anthracite culm. In the case of this single Consolidation, the fuel was "Poor coal, 20 to 24 per cent ash.", a low-calorie source that had similar requirements - light draft and thin bed. Hence the use of the big firebox. Some time later, the Durango Central herald was applied to the tender; Locobase doesn't know if it was a sale or the result of a consolidation of railways. DM&S extracted copper ore in decreasing quantities in the first decade of the 1900s.
