FC Mineral de Chihuahua 2-8-0 Locomotives in Mexico

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 13837)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 39, p 161. Works number was 37566 in March 1912.

30 June 1913 note in the specs advises: "Hereafter: Redesign forward equal[izing] beam, radius bar, and radius bar crosstie so that the set in the front brake beam may be eliminated." Very soon after the engine was delivered, the specs report that the "extra-work department" had converted the engine to oil-firing with a tank of 2-3 ton capacity and put the 5 "in proper condition for shipment".

There were two railroads that carried iron ore from the associated mines to the Avalos smelter. The steam road used Consolidations like the 5 shown here. The other was an electric railway running on the 2-foot, 6-inch gauge.
