New Zealand Government Railways 0-4-2 Locomotives in New_Zealand

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class C (Locobase 5168)

Data from John Garner's comprehensive site at [] ... (October 2002). Originally produced without any auxiliary axles, these locomotives came from Glasgow. Dubs & Co delivered five of the class and Neilson accounted for 11 more.

When they arrived on the railway, however, the lack of a truck led to severe oscillations over 15 mph. The railway's shops added a Bissel trailing axle under the cab before 1880. Photographs also show a cabbage stack.
