This little tank quintet came from Nasmyth Wilson over a 5-year period (works #311, 315, 322, 323, 312, respectively) and were taken over in 1900 by the New Zealand Government.
When NZMR 2 was retired in 1920, it went to the Auckland Farmers Freezing Co. Ltd. in Moerewa until 1934. NZMR 5 went out of service in January 1926 and operated for the New Forest Sawmilling Company in Ngahere for another 24 years.
