NHJ / NSB 2-4-0 Locomotives in Norway

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Class 41 (Locobase 6180)

Data from:

Svein Sando's Railway Site [link] (9 June 2004)--(Later link: The Semaphore, accessed for link update 10 July 2022.)-- and the Jernbane (Iron Road) site [link] (June 2004).

Built originally for the NHJ (the Norwegian Trunk Line) which was opened between Oslo (then Christiana) and Eidsvold on 1 Sept 1854. When the NSB took over the NHJ in 1926, this cross-compound was brought in as Type 41. The original 3-axle tender was replaced by a 2-axle tender of greater capacity. Seems a little late in the day to be buying 2-4-0s, but the duo filled a need because the last wasn't retired until 7 July 1953.
