Drammen Randsfordbanen 4-4-0 Locomotives in Norway

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 38 (Locobase 10117)

Data from "Passenger Locomotive, Norwegian State Railways," The Locomotive & Railway Carriage & Wagon Review, Volume IV (May 1899), p. 72 and Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 21, p.246. Works numbers were 16204-16205 in September 1898.

This pair of small Eight-wheelers was supplied to the Randsfjord narrow-gauge line extension that connected Drammen with Oslo's west side. The 52.9-km (32.9-mile) line opened in 1872 and remained under steam until electrified between 1913 and 1922. The Baldwins had a relatively tall and thin steam dome.

NB: The direct heating surface (including the firebox heating surface) is an estimate calculated by subtracting the calculated tube heating surface from the reported total evaporative heating surface.
