Huancayo a Ayacucho 2-6-0 Locomotives in Peru

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 14381)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 66, p. 185+ and Vol 72, pp. 88+. Works numbers were 54261-54262 in January 1921 and 58044 in September 1924.

All Huancayo a Ayacucho locomotives were subject to two stringent demands: the ability to handle curves radii of 50 metre (164 feet) or 35 1/2 degrees and the ability to operate at altitudes up to 15,000 feet (4,572 metres).

A 9 May 1924 note in the 4's spec advises raising the question of "raising boiler to give more clearance for spring links and decreasing depth of fire box and improve design of frame."
