Data from Jane's Railways reproduced in Rodrigue Levesque, The Railways of Peru, Volume 2 - East of Eden (2008), p. 34.
Developed to tackle some of the most gruelling railroad country in the world, these doughty freight haulers had short boilers, 4 sets of coupled drivers with the Belpaire firebox inside the last set, air sanding from a large boiler-mounted dome ahead of the steam dome, and air brakes. The grades they were expected to work took a 4-4 1/2% pitch during the last 74 miles of the route from Lima to the Galera Tunnel.
Beyer, Peacock produced these 29 engines over 16 years as well as 20 more for the Southern of Peru and 5 for the Cerro de Pasco.
