Manila Railroad 2-8-2 Locomotives in Philippines

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 251 (Locobase 15460)

Data from DeGolyer, Vol 79, pp. 400+. Works numbers were 60515, 60540-60542 in June 1928 and 60581-60584 in August.

Using the same boiler and firebox as the slightly earlier three-cylinder Pacifics (Locobase 4428), Eddystone lengthened piston stroke and shrank the driver diameter to confer more tractive effort on these Mikados. Like the Pacifics, firebox heating surface area included 13 sq ft (1.2 sq m) of arch tubes, eight inch (203 mm) piston valves fed the cylinders, and a Worthington No 1 feed water heater was mounted on the left side.
