Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro de Beira Alta 2-4-0 Locomotives in Portugal

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class BA 21 (Locobase 11203)

Data from [], last accessed 13 April 2010.

These Austrian engines were typical 2-4-0 passenger locomotives of the time. The design put the large steam dome just behind the stack and just ahead of a smaller sand dome that supplied sand to the first axle. The safety valves were located on the firebox under the cab roof.

By the time the state-run Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro de Portugueses (CP) took over the BA in 1948, 4 of the class had been retired. The CP lost little time in disposing of the other 4.
