Resita was the primary producer of this post-World War II decapod design that was based on the German BR 50. Malaxa's contribution was confined to a 31-locomotive batch (150.051-150.081).

In 1959, the CFR modified the firebox by installing thermic syphons and improved exhaust performance by fitting a double Kylchap over the smokebox.

Powerful and effective, the class remained in service until 1978-1979.
