Grazi-Tsaritsin 0-6-0 Locomotives in Russia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 35 -compounded (Locobase 15792)

Data from Mr. Thomas Urquhart, "On the Compounding of Locomotives Burning Petroleum Refuse in Russia", Institute of Mechanical Engineers (London, IME, 1890), pp. 48-49.

Urquhart, the Locomotive Superintendent of the G-T, experimented with both the use of waste oil as a fuel and with a two-cylinder compound system consisting of the left LP and the right HP cylinder. Like most other early compounders, Urquhart's compounding ratio of less than two would prove to be less efficient than those with higher ratios.
