Moscow-Riazan 0-6-0 Locomotives in Russia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 52 (Locobase 20512)

Data from "Some Past and Present Russian Locos", Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXI [21] (15 November 1915), p. 246 and Volume XXII [22] (15 March 1916), p. 55. Works numbers were 1604-1611.

As noted in Locobase 20511, the LM account provides information supplied by G F Tyas to LM's author about 19th Century Russian locomotives. This Leeds product was built to French specs after an earlier deal with Schneider-Creusot was annulled by the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870.

These also had vase-like spark-arresting stacks, but their cabs provided less shelter for the footplate crews than did the passenger engines shown in Locobases 20510-20511. Their fireboxes were designed to burn wood, lignite, or soft coal.
