St Petersburg-Warsaw 0-6-0 Locomotives in Russia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 13566)

Data from "Russian Goods Locomotive," Engineering, Volume 18 (25 December 1874), pp. 490-491.

Engineering noted a few differences from the typical goods locomotive of the time. One was a slight backwards rake to the firebox's back wall, which slightly increased the grate area. Otherwise, the engine had a common profile that had the dome well forward, just behind the stack and just ahead of a small drum-shaped sandbox. The stack had a flared spark-arresting casing around the straight pipe. A much smaller onion dome sat over over the firebox and inside the cab. One criticism concerned the reversing lever, which was "...very short, and has a most unusually -- and we consider inconveniently -- large angular range."
