State TransCaucasus 2-10-0 Locomotives in Russia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Dk 249 (Locobase 12130)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 19, p. 165. Works number was 14207-14208 in January 1895.

This design was one of the largest of the time to use a Vauclain compound cylinder. The cylinder stroke was quite long and the piston valves a relatively generous 11 1/2" in (292 mm) diameter. Yet although it had five adhesion axles, it was about the size of a large North American Consolidation.
