Class Vierfontein (Locobase 13981)

Data from diagram reproduced on [link],4824452, last accessed 24 March 2012. Works number was 28392 in 1950.

According to information supplied by John Middleton to the abovementioned blog, the Vierfontein served several power stations during a long career:

"Vierfontein Power Station 1950-1959 ...construction of this Power Station started in March 1950 and it first produced power in 1953, so the loco must have initially been used on construction work.

Komati Power Station 1959-1964

Rosherville Workshops 1964-1967

Hendrina Power Station 1967 to 1995.

It was rated at 40 km/h (24.8 mph) and had a minimum curve radius of 85 m (279 ft).

The engine later bore the ESC logo of the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM).

In November 1995, the ex-Vierfontein was transferred to SANRASM Krugersdorp for Preservation
