Barcelona-St Andres tramway 0-4-0 Locomotives in Spain

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 8434)

Data from D. Kinnear Clark CE,Tramways - Their Construction and Working (London: Crosby, Lockwood & Co, 1878), pp. 388-390.

These appear to have been nearly identical to the Sud Tramways engines that pulled tram cars between Bastille and the Gard de Mont Parnasse in Paris (Locobase 8432). Kinnear describes the exhaust-steam condensing system by first noting the 300-gallon cold-water tank mounted overhead. As the steam entered an "apparatus like an ejector, in the lower part of the engine", it met the cold water coming from the tank and condensed. After taking the heat from the steam, the water then returned to the tank. Although the water would gradually heat up, it would continue to be effective in eliminating the appearance of steam for about 2 hours.
