Arenillas noted the very tall drivers for an 0-6-0, which were designed to serve two almost contradictory requirements. The tall drivers allowed a higher speed on the flat, while the all-adhesion arrangement gave better traction on the steep grades that were part of the CA's profile. Indeed, the latter seems to have influenced a change in layout from the originally planned 4-4-0.
Also fitted with the usual Belpaire firebox that included a relatively large grate for an all-adhesion six-coupled locomotive.
