Arenillas says this railway was also "pompously" named the Spanish Great Central. Funded by Belgian capital, it opened in 1892. Far from living up to its name, however, it only ever operated 10 locomotives. Five of them formed this class of little tank engines. When the RENFE took over the line in 1941, Arenillas notes, these locomotives were dispersed to various yards for switching duties.
