Class Algeciras / 130-2001 (Locobase 3344)

Data from [link], the web site of the Spanish National Railway. B-A details from Manuel Jesus Martinez Selva, "Traccion vapor den el Ferrocarrile Bobadilla-Algeciras," Euphoros, (date?), pp. 53-68. Works 3166-3168 and 3351-3353.

This Mogul sextet helped to make up the initial motive power stud of the B-A when it was opened in the early 1890s. In fact, Beyer, Peacock built trios of 4-4-0s and 2-6-0s alternately in the two years. (See Locobase 3345 for the two additional Moguls delivered 22 years later with slight modifications. Comparisons of the two batches suggest that the tubes in the 1891 boilers were a few inches longer, but Locobase cannot confirm that.)

Like the other B-A engines, these were named as well as numbered; respectively, the names were Algeciras, Teba, San Roque, Malaga, Espana, and Guadarranque. The names commemorated stations, two provinces, rivers crossed by the railway, even the country itself.

All were brought into the Anadaluces in 1913 as well as into RENFE 28 years after that. 13-16 were assigned to the Zafra y Huelva's shed at Huelva-Odiel. Withdrawals began in 1955 and were completed by 1959.

Class Gaucin / 130-2021 (Locobase 3345)

Data from [link], the web site of the Spanish National Railway. B-A details from Manuel Jesus Martinez Selva, "Traccion vapor den el Ferrocarrile Bobadilla-Algeciras," Euphoros, (date?), pp. 53-68. Works numbers were 5719-5720.

22 years after the B-A bought its first six 2-6-0s from Beyer, Peacock in 1891 (Locobase 3344), it added these two Moguls. Their boiler pressures were set about 2.2 bar higher (31 psi). RENFE's data shows a slight decrease in the heating surface area, which may have meant a reduction in the number of tubes in the boiler, although the diagram that shows the differences displays no such changes.

Shortly after the 18-19 arrived, the Andaluces took over the Bobadilla-Algeciras. Both were taken into the RENFE when the railways were nationalized in 1941.

The pair served all of its railways faithfully until retirement in 1955-1959.
