Data from [], the web site of the Spanish National Railway, as of 21 April 2003. See also Justo Arenillas, "Locomotoras derivadas from las 400 del Norte", Lineas Del Tren (as reproduced on [] viewed 28 April 2003).
Arenillas says that this locomotive was derived from the famous 400-class Consolidations built by the Norte. Principal differences were the lack of a superheater and small drivers. However, RENFE's own data shows a duplicate of the Norte locomotive, including the Belpaire firebox, and thus representing this lone engine after a RENFE update.
Measured from the fire side, the tube heating surface came to 1,828 sq ft (169.8 sq m).
