Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 71/220-2011 (Locobase 3400)

Data from [], the web site of the Spanish National Railway and Pere Comas and Alfred Puig, Breve Historia de la Traccion Vapor en Norte, Trensim TS10H001, Noviembre de 2010, pp. 18, 78. Works numbers were 1184-1195 in 1882, 1251-1261 in 1883, and 1357 in 1884.

Comas and Puig note that this class was the first bogie engines in Spain with widely separated driving axles, which opened space for a deeper firebox. The layout also conferred a much more stable ride, which allowed an increase in allowed speed to 70 km/h (43.5 mph).

Nine of the class remained in service long enough to be taken in RENFE in 1941.
