These de Glehn-compounds first came on the Andalusian rails from the Societe' Usine de Graffrenstaden in France. Pipe-bedecked, as were most Spanish engines, these Belpaire-boilered engines had a heavy lead bogie, large "horsecollar" smokebox, tall steam dome over the first driving axle, cylindrical sand dome just behind, Walschaerts gear outside for cylinders driving on the second axle (and inside valve gear to cylinders driving on the first axle). In 1928, Spanish firms in Bilbao -- Babcock & Wilcox (17) and Euskalduna (5) -- turned out copies. Like the other 4-6-0s of the early 1900s, many of these engines saw the end of steam.
