Eight-axle tank engines saw service in several countries including on this Galician railway in extreme northwestern Spain. It linked Betanzos with the Spanish naval base at El Ferrol on the Bay of Biscay.
Torner says that this quartet soon moved from to the Ferrocarril de Medina del Campo á Zamora y de Orense á Vigo (MZOV) and renumbered 86-89. When the Oeste formed and reclassified all of its motive power, these tanks were renumbered 961-964. Finally, when the RENFE was created in 1941, these were placed in class 242-0201.
NB: RENFE's 1947 diagram shows the exterior diameter of the 143 small tubes and 22 large tubes, but gives the following heating surface areas based on the tubes' interior diameters: tubes and flues , 143.20 sq m (1,636 sq ft) and, including firebox area, 156.70 sq m (1,687 sq ft).
