Minas de Castillia la Viega y Jaen Articulated Locomotives in Spain

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 14399)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 57, pp. 311+. Works number was 49411 in July 1918.

Although built to the same specification as the Russian Mallets shown in Locobase 14398, this engine was not diverted from that order once the October Revolution broke out in November 1917 (it's a Julian-Gregorian calendar discrepancy). Pursuant to Extra Order #3500, Baldwin's Extra Work Department converted the locomotive's gauge from 3 foot, 6 inch (1,067 mm) to metre gauge and the firebox and tender to handle coal.
