Sudan Railway 2-8-2 Locomotives in Sudan

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 150 (Locobase 20057)

Data from "'Mikado Type' Locomotive, Soudan [sic] Government Railways", Locomotive Magazine, Volume 27 (15 March 1921), pp. 55-57.

As was true of most SGR locomotives, this class was built to the design of Mr.

C. G. Hodgson , Chief Mechanical Engineer, Atbara in the Sudan. Its outside constant-lead radial valve gear actuated 10" (254 mm) piston valves.

Class 180 (Locobase 21164)

Data from "'Mikado Type' Locomotive for Kassala Extension Line, Sudan Government Railways", Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXX [30], No. 362 ( 14 June 1924), p . Works numbers were 3861-3870 in 1924.

As was true of most SGR locomotives, this class was built to the design of Mr.

C. G. Hodgson , Chief Mechanical Engineer, Atbara in the Sudan. Its outside constant-lead radial valve gear actuated piston valves. A Weir feed water heater added energy to the boiler.
